Wilks score calculator
Strength does not scale linearly with body weight, so a raw total flatters heavy lifters. Wilks corrects for it with a fitted polynomial.
- Wilks coefficient
- 0.658 34
- Total as a multiple of body weight
- 5.882
Show the working
- Total lifted = 500
- Body weight = 85
- Sex = 1
- k0 = 1 > 0 ? -216.0475144 : 594.31747775582 = -216.048
- k1 = 1 > 0 ? 16.2606339 : -27.23842536447 = 16.2606
- k2 = 1 > 0 ? -0.002388645 : 0.82112226871 = -0.002 388 65
- k3 = 1 > 0 ? -0.00113732 : -0.00930733913 = -0.001 137 32
- k4 = 1 > 0 ? 7.01863e-6 : 4.731582e-5 = 0.000 007 018 63
- k5 = 1 > 0 ? -1.291e-8 : -9.054e-8 = -1.291e-8
- denom = -216.048 + 16.2606*85 + -0.002 388 65*85^2 + -0.001 137 32*85^3 + 0.000 007 018 63*85^4 + -1.291e-8*85^5 = 759.486
- Wilks coefficient = 500 / 759.486 = 0.658 34
- Wilks score = 500 * 0.658 34 = 329.17
- Total as a multiple of body weight = 500 / 85 = 5.882 35
Values are shown to six significant figures here; the arithmetic itself runs on exact fractions and is only rounded where a number is printed.

The formula
- Wilks = total x 500 / (a + b x + c x^2 + d x^3 + e x^4 + f x^5), where x is body weight in kg
- Men: a = -216.0475144, b = 16.2606339, c = -0.002388645, d = -0.00113732, e = 7.01863e-6, f = -1.291e-8
- Women: a = 594.31747775582, b = -27.23842536447, c = 0.82112226871, d = -0.00930733913, e = 4.731582e-5, f = -9.054e-8
These are the original Wilks coefficients. The IPF has since moved to its own points system, and Wilks 2 exists as well; meets differ on which they use.
The polynomial is only fitted between about 40 and 200 kg body weight and goes strange outside it.
This is a population formula, not a diagnosis. Individual metabolism, body composition and medical history all move the real answer, so treat the number as a starting point and talk to a clinician about anything that matters.
