Candle making calculator
Wax is measured by weight but containers are sold by volume, and the wax density bridges the two.

- Fragrance oil
- 194.4
- Total fill weight
- 2430
- Fill weight per candle
- 202.5
- Wax per candle
- 186.3
- Rough burn time per candle At about 7 g of wax consumed per hour for a typical container candle.
- 28.9 hours
- Wick sizing diameter Match the wick to the container diameter and the wax; test-burn before selling.
- 70
Show the working
- Container volume = 250
- Number of candles = 12
- Fill level = 90
- Wax density = 0.9
- Fragrance load = 8
- Container diameter = 70
- fill_volume = 250 * 90/100 = 225
- Total fill weight = 225 * 0.9 * 12 = 2430
- Fragrance oil = 2430 * 8/100 = 194.4
- Wax needed = 2430 - 194.4 = 2235.6
- Fill weight per candle = 2430 / 12 = 202.5
- Wax per candle = 2235.6 / 12 = 186.3
- Rough burn time per candle = 202.5 / 7 = 28.9286
- Wick sizing diameter = 70 = 70
Values are shown to six significant figures here; the arithmetic itself runs on exact fractions and is only rounded where a number is printed.

The formula
- fill weight = container volume x fill level x wax density
- fragrance = fill weight x load; wax = fill weight - fragrance
Soy wax is about 0.9 g/mL, paraffin about 0.9, and beeswax closer to 0.96. Weigh a test pour to calibrate.
Fragrance load above the wax flashpoint rating causes sooting and can be a fire risk. Stay within the manufacturer limit.
